Viognier [vee-own-yay], a white varietal that originates from the Rhone Valley in France, always reminds us to “stop and smell the flowers”. Floral perfumes of honeysuckle merge with tropical aromas of mango, lemongrass and pineapple on this fuller bodied white wine. We like to accentuate the natural acidity of this this bold varietal by picking early enough to maintain a bright freshness. We then buff out the sharper edges by aging this wine 11 months in 20% new French oak barrels. The result is a well-balanced, mouth coating white wine with flavors of nectarine, pear and honey.
